ANDREWS – In this city on Thursday March 18, Dr. Luther M. Andrews, aged 72 years, 5 months and 2 days.
Dr. Andrews, owing to his advanced age and an attack of the grippe had been in feeble health for some months past, and failing quite rapidly, passed quietly away last Thursday morning.
The funeral services took place Sunday at 2 o’clock p.m. at the family residence in Falls View. The services at the house were conducted by Meade Post No. 2, G. A. R. Prayer was offered by Rev. A. J. Montgomery, after which Dr. J. W. Cowan delivered a short address on the life and character of his deceased friend. The remains were then taken to the Masonic cemetery, the pallbearers being G. A. Harding, Caleb Cross, Geo. Horton, R. Koerner, D. B. Martin and L. W. Davis. The closing rites were then conducted by the Masons with the beautiful and impressive ceremony of the order. There was a large attendance of both G. A. R. men and Masons, Dr. Andrews being a member of both orders, as well as a large concourse of business men and friends. The floral offerings were very handsome and appropriate.
Dr. Andrews leaves an aged wife and two sons, Edward B. and Forrest C. Andrews and two daughters, Mrs. O. H. Wright, of Liberal and Mrs. Geo. Marr of this city, to mourn his loss, for he was a true husband and a kind father.
Dr. Andrews was born in Franklin Mills, Ohio, October 16, 1824. He served three years and a half in the late war as surgeon in the 47th Illinois infantry. At the close of the war he settled in Iowa where he practiced his profession until six years ago when he removed to this city, where he engaged in the drug business until about a year ago when failing health caused him to retire from business. He was a man upright and honorable in all his dealings, and a citizen of whom any town could well be proud of.
