VETERAN PASSES, WAS WELL KNOWN HERE, LIVED AT WILLAMETTE
Francis W. Frederick, former resident of Willamette, who left here nine years ago, after making his home at the residence of Mrs. R. A. Junken, the latter his daughter, of Willamette, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Roth, at Forado, Minnesota, October 30, at the age of 96 years. Remains are now on their way to Oregon City burial in the family lot in Mountain View cemetery. The funeral services are to be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Holman & Pace funeral parlors, with Rev. H. G. Edgar, pastor of the Presbyterian church officiating. The Meade Post No. 2, G. A. R., of which Mr. Frederick was a member, will have charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mr. Frederick was born in Orange county, New York, June 25, 1824. On December 13, 1856 he married Miss Hannah Martin. He entered the service during the Civil War, becoming a member of Second Minnesota Cavalry. During the was he was wounded, which caused his total blindness in 1868. Although unable to see for many years, Mr. Frederick was always of the same happy disposition, making the best of his affliction. He was well posted on the topics of the day. After taking up his residence in Oregon City, he became a member of the Meade Post, and was one of its most active members while residing here.

Deceased is survived by the following children: H. E. Frederick, who is 73 years of age and residing in Forado, Minn.; Mrs. Lizzie Roth, 69 years of age, of Forado, Minn.; Mrs. Sarah Prodger, 63 years of age, of Wenatchee, Wash.; Mrs. Hattie Tumbley, of Canada; Frank Frederick, of Minnesota; Charles Frederick of Fargo N. D.; Mrs. Effie Junken, of Willamette. Mr. Frederick was the father of twelve children. He is also survived by thirty-two grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was the brother-in-law of Josiah Martin, of Willamette.

Mr. Frederick was well and favorably known in Oregon City, where he had many friends, as well as at Willamette.
