Rev. Jacob S. McComb, 92, retired Baptist minister, passed away here Wednesday
at 1 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sarah Lacey, with whom he had made
his home for the past three years. Rev. McComb was born in Miller County,
Missouri, August 21, 1835, and in 1860 was ordained as minister. He enlisted in
Company D. Osage Regiment of the Home Guards of Missouri June 22, 1860, and while
in camp preached to the soldiers.
Rev. McComb later moved to Kansas. In the fall of 1890 he came west, settling
in Oregon City, and for some time also made his home with his children in
Portland. After coming to Oregon, Rev. McComb engaged in home missionary work.
Although he was nearing his 92nd birthday, he seldom missed attending Sunday
church services, except for the time of his last illness.
Rev. McComb is survived by the following daughters and sons: Mrs. Sarah A.
Lacey, Mrs. Mae Groher, Oregon City; Mrs. Lillie Meriwether, Portland; Mrs. Emma
Turk, Detroit, Kansas; Mrs. Ella Little, Ason, Ga.; Joseph McComb, Estacada;
D.K. McComb, Topeka, Kans.; J.B. McComb, Kansas City, Mo.; 36
great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Rev. McComb was an active member of Meade post No. 2 G.A.R. of this city.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the First Baptist
Church. Interment will be in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery. The
body will be laid to rest beside his wife. The body is at the chapel of Holmans
